On Saturday February 29, 2020 The Detroit Blues Heritage Series will present “Tribute to Classic Detroit Blues” This event will take place at the Historic Scarab Club, 217 Farnsworth in Detroit’s Cultural Center from 2PM until 4:30 PM. A $10.00 Donation is requested
The band at this event will be the Hasting Street Boys featuring Brian Miller (Harmonica), Harry Oman (Guitar), Tino Gross (Drums), Marvin Conrad (Bass). Special Guest will include Mr. B (Mark Braun) on piano and Dan Devins on vocals. We will also have Musician and Author Fred Reif speaking about Detroit Blues History and his new book "Tell 'em 'bout the blues"
This concert is a celebration of the history of Detroit Blues music. The scene around Detroit’s legendary Paradise Valley was a hotbed of blues in the 1940s and 1950s, with legendary clubs like The Flame Show Bar, Lee’s Sensation, and the 20 Grand featuring the finest urban and jump blues of the day, while the house party scene presided over by John Lee Hooker up and down Hastings street changed the history of blues, and helped give birth to Rock and Roll.
This music featured at this event of Detroit blues pioneers Big Maceo Merriweather, Boogie Woogie Red, Baby Boy Warren, Bobo Jenkins, Calvin Frazier, Little Sonny, Eddie Burns, and more. Join us as we rock the Scarab Club with a selection of seldom-played tunes by legendary blues artists of the classic era of Detroit blues
